Meet Big B, our next Prime Minister

Well, that was wishful thinking by a Big B Constant Fan.
And who says I can't?

When Chiranjeevi brought the House down (along with a couple hundred trees to make space for his 10 lakh supporters) on that dried sprawling 120-acre Avilala Tank, I sat there, watched that on the telly and wished how it would have been if it was the great AB in his place?

And that was some food for thought (make it, a Banquet for thought , if you want to).

Maybe the Legend would take to it, in the same diplomatic, professional demeanor that he brings to his projects, even for that screechy, horror bits that the Directors think up as seen in his recent ones. (Didn't quite get that last part, buddy? Close your eyes and think about that Alien Dancing Phantom in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, or that endearing ghost who was suffocated and killed in typicall Bollywood mushy melodrama in Bhoothnath?..Ah.There, get the idea, don't you?

I am thinking the entire exercise would be handled by his rabid media managers. Maybe after a score or two of National Surveys on key National Issues, they would narrow down on a small list of core issues.Next step would be to bring in, the best advertising agency into the exercise and ask them to come out with a comprehensive strategy to 'Launch' Big B into the Dirty Arena of Indian Politics.
(Sad that Gucci, Dairymilk,Parker, Baidyanath Chyawanprash and Reid & Taylor cant do much on that!).

After the finalizing of the name of the party, the concept and content of the launch would begin the media onslaught on TV and Print about the Second Coming of Big B.

We would have PYT's who can't even spell his Surname without referring thrice into Wikipedia, literally frothing and asphyxiating on camera on the Big Launch of Big B.

We would have Discussions by eminent personalities on TV, authorities, political analysts, Social psychologists clawing and mauling each other, much to the delight of the celebrity TV Moderator on the Political Correctness of AB enetring politics the second time.

An on the Big B Day, the entire TV dom would rival each other in streaming into our Living rooms,the legendary baritone, proclaiming about how he listened to His Inner Voice, and decided to do this for the Greater Good of the Big Billion that has made him what he is now.

I suspect the Big B Day to be in cleverly-close proximity to the National Election to keep the euphoria live and breathing.

Maybe, He would contest independently, or may align with the Nationalist Bigwig making the loudest noise, in close consultation with the Media Team, get a nodding approval and maybe become their PM candidate.
And if all goes well, the baritone will once again ring out, this time as a solemn oath, dedicating his time in the humble service of the Nation.

Which of course, will be streamed live, with the delightful accompaniment of the rabid reporting brigade.
That is an essentially wonderful premise, once you think about it.

More than anything, that would prove as the biggest blockbuster drama Big B has ever participated in.
(or rather lived in).
But, there is a small hitch.
It just doesn't work that way.

It might have, in fits and starts, but Common Sense is on its Great Comeback Trip, in this Nation.
The same media who deluges us with the most surreal nuggets related to a event, also shows us the entire futility of their cosmetic involvement too.

Issues go deeper than that. National Issues that mark the difference between Life and death.
Chiranjeevi's emotional appeal looks good on TV.
But you need to get through a couple of CC cameras, three levels of high security and a million questions before you get to the swanky Waiting Room to Wait for the Leader.

Raise that bar a 100 times for AB's Corporate head Quarters.

That alone tells you the essential flaw in the Call from Deep Inside.

Selfless National Service (without Corporate Sponsors) is something far removed from the current media mandarin's 'Conceptualized" Politics.

I have decided.
I'd rather have that baritone, intoning from a prepared script.
In the arc lights - in for the Camera.
After all, is there anything more selfless than pure entertainment by a consummate performer?

It is time to Rock On, with more fresh ideas in Bollywood

Farhan Akhtar, whether he likes it or not, is a bookmark in Bollywood's Bible of Movie Making, Themes and Techniques.

When he burst into the ketchup and kohl littered landscape of our Planet Bollywood, he chose to tell us the colorful and emotional transition from teenage to life as we know it, with three different perspectives to life.

It could have been made in the classic mould of Bollywood pot-boilers, but he chose to do it, with more strings attached to the 'Life as we see around', and that gave a fresh impetus to the staid old Bollywood Locomotive, that was more or less chugging at a bored,disinterested pace till then.

It was his first movie. And it was a fresh idea.

And it retained its freshness and thereby its individuality when it reached the Cinemas.

The film went on to win critical acclaim, winning that year's National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.It also gave confidence to scores of young film makers, with fantastic little creative concepts to conceive their dreams in celluloid in Bollywood.

Outrageous, out-of-the-box and sometimes outright hilarious, some hit the box-office, made people sit up and notice and some, regardless of the quality and uniqueness sputtered at the Box-Office.

But, that is an entirely different discussion altogether.

This new influx of talent also started a movement in Bollywood that is now snowballing with a momentum that has never been witnessed in Indian Cinema before.

It can be termed, for convenience, the Invasion of Rocking ideas and its time has come.

Take a look at the slew of those 'Fresh Movies' that has come post DCH.

Each of them, regardless of their commercial faring, is a little nail, firmly hammered down the trite coffin of mindless fare, which has been timelessly dished out from the Big Wigs, for public consumption.

Rang de basanti, Khosla ka Ghosla, Hazaaron Kwaishein Aisi, Bheja Fry, Cheeni Kum each different from the other like chalk and cheese, but each managed to find its 'Needing' audience.

And this Friday, its the time of ROCK ON.

The initial drawings are good, but the first week would be judgmental in its verdict on the commercial faring at the Box-Office.

The point is this.

That dividing, thick and bold line between commercial and art cinema has faded.

There have been more variety in the subjects of mainstream commercial fare in the past 7 years than the past 97 years put together.

Technology has helped, no doubt.

But, to think, you still need an organic, creative brain. That is becoming a watershed for our Indian moviescape.

Interesting, when you think about it - It is almost 100 years since Raja Harishchandra graced our Silver Screen in meaningful mime. 100 years for Spring to bless Bollywood.

The Refreshing Season of unbridled creativity is here, at last.
Maybe, Farhan Akhtar was the first Sparrow.

The Khiladi opted for a Royal Choice some time back, and in all respects has come out, twice Shininng. (The extra 'n' is in keeping with the trend of -numerology / vaastu in the present Bollywood Times).

Maybe Vipul Shah needed a little comfort in his insecurity. But, guess Akshay Kumar must have nodded to that with his trademark grin and swagger.

Have told this once, and am repeating it again - Akshay Kumar has single handedly turned himself to the Biggest AND the Safest Commodity that has been ever exported out of Bollywood!
And that is THE FACT.
Whether you like him or not.

The man who drove the behemoth called Bollywood in 2007, is back in the driving seat again.
The magic is yet to rub off.

Singh is Kinng opened up to a record figure of 60 Crore in the FIRST WEEK. Could anyone point out another Star who can hold a candle to this Khiladi?
Please.
Numbers DO NOT lie.And if its the Tube that you are talking about, The New Kingg on the Block has ensured his Royalty there too.

The macho show that's had its fair share of controversies, Khatron Ke Khiladi(man, that's some de ja vu), Akshay is being paid (rumored!) Rs.1.5 Crore per episode, Ladies and Gentlemen.

The other King was rumored to have it somewhere in the mid 50's (Lakh, if you please).
And it has rubbed on everyone associated with him, too.

Vipul Shah, who's now shooting London Dreams has sold his movie for a mind boggling 120 Crore, BEFORE release.

True, the marketing dynamics have changed. But, the facts are out there.

Along with sharing some groovy licks with Snoop Doggy Dog and screen space with Stallone in Kambaqt Ishq, our Akki has come a long way.

And is taking Bollywood along with him to levels that would have been unimaginable five years ago.
And between all this, The Singh is celebrating its dream run.

And Sinnging his way into a million hearts more. With a lil help from Snoop Dogg.
